Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Newest release has many new features including virtual cockpits. It also has multi-player, so you can play online anywhere. It keeps track of flight hours and even Machado even shows you how to fly. Lessons go from student pilot to air transport pilot.

Attention Pilot Students: The following letter is from CSU Long Beach, looking for students to participate in an exciting simulation.
You may not remember that I contacted you about recruited student pilots for simulation work being done at Cal State Long Beach in the Center of the Study of Advanced Aeronautic Technologies (CSAAT) which is jointly sponsored by Boeing and NASA Ames, as you can see on our web page. At the time we were looking for pilots to run in a simulation, and you asked for additional details regarding pilot background and experience. As NASA provided pilots we did not need to recruit from Cypress last January. IF you’re interested, the attached document is a summary of our work that will be presented at the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting this September.
Now we are planning another simulation that requires pilots flying approach paths into DFW and we would like to recruit about 12 pilot participants from Cypress College. I was hoping I would be able to recruit them for the experiment to be run mid July over two weeks. The simulation/experiment would consist of 1 day of training on the simulation software, followed by 1-3 days of actual simulation (when we collect performance measures.) the following week. We are fortunate to be able to pay pilots for their participation (this is not always the case, however). We are also a bit more flexible regarding pilot training and experience. The following list of qualifications represents the “ideal” participant, but at a minimum they should be instrument rated, with the more flight experience the better.
* Instrument rated
* Familiarity with TCAS
* Familiarity with reading/studying approach plates
* Mode Control Panel operations in large terminal area
* Shooting ILS approaches
* Commercial/multi-engine rated would be nice
* Past ground school so they have familiarity with clearances and watching/worrying about traffic hitting them
Would you have student pilots available this summer and can we get permission to recruit them? If you need more information, I would be happy to talk with you further (562-985-5035).
Thanks
Tom
